This time last year I met Becky and Omar for the first time for their engagement shoot and we were so spoilt with the weather. Gorgeous autumnal sunshine albeit a few degrees colder than comfortable!

We combined our first meeting not only with the shoot and also a venue visit! Their venue was Love2yurt, a glamping site in Northampton so it made perfect sense to make the most of the gorgeous surroundings and gave me the chance to chat to them about their vision for their wedding day and be able to visualise it myself and to explore the site looking for shooting opportunities for the day.

Being able to ask them about their plans in person was amazing. They chatted away about what they wanted, relaxing them both in the process and I was able to start shooting, taking advantage of them being busy, telling me what they had in mind. Getting ready in separate themed yurts, a lakeside ceremony with a weeping willow in the background, hay bales, fairy lights, converse shoes; it just all sounded amazing.

I really value the benefits of an engagement shoot, so much so that I include them in my all day wedding photography packages. It’s so important to feel comfortable with your wedding photographer. You will be sharing the best day of your life with those closest to you and them, so you want to know that they are your type of person, that they understand what you want from your day and value what’s important to you. I think it helps to break down any barriers between you and the camera too, then on the wedding day itself, you will much less conscious of both me and the camera, meaning more of those natural smiles and genuine moments.
