How to get the most epic wedding confetti shots

I just adore a wedding confetti shot. They are full of joy, fun and smiles and fill your wedding hair and outfit with colourful paper or petals for weeks to come – what isn’t to love? – haha.

But seriously though, just after your wedding ceremony ends, I think it can really capture all that gorgeous, love filled energy and is a great way to kick start your wedding drinks reception.

Here are my top tips to keep your wedding confetti shot completely relaxed and to also get the very best images.

DECIDE TO HAVE ONE

This may sound obvious but decide if you want a confetti shot or not. In times gone by guests used to bring their own confetti but this isn’t the case so much anymore. So if you want the shot you’ll need to be prepared with confetti to hand out. There won’t be enough if you haven’t prepared!

WHAT TYPE AND WHERE

Some venues have strict rules on what type of confetti can be used so be sure to check with them first before ordering. But even if you are getting paper and not natural petals, please ALWAYS get biodegradable!

Some venues also have specific places where confetti can be thrown. This is one of the questions that I ask my couples in our pre wedding catchup as it is useful to know.

STRAIGHT AFTER THE CEREMONY IS BEST

When your ceremony is over and you are announced as the new married couple you’ll strut down the aisle with a smile from ear to ear, get handed your reception drink and this is the perfect time for the confetti shot. You get a minute or two to sneak to the side and take a ‘we just got married!’ moment and everyone will be leaving the ceremony area so what easier time than now to herd everyone into lines in our chosen spot. It keeps everything flowing rather than having to prize everyone away from their reception drinks and canapés to line up again.

DELEGATE

It may be that the venue coordinator will help but otherwise give some guests the job of handing out the confetti. Your best people or wedding party members are usually best for this. Let them know in advance and ask them to know where it is for straight after your wedding ceremony.

DID I MENTION …. ALWAYS BUY BIODEGRADABLE!

BIG IS BEST

Natural buds and dried petals look absolutely gorgeous in a basket and can look great in a shot. BUT if you want a really big impact then small confetti can sometimes look a bit lost and be less visible. Big is best and the ‘fluttery-er’ – yes I made up that word – the better! (Flutter Darlings is 100% my recommended go to company for confetti. I have a special offer at the bottom of this blog for you)

YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH

Everyone wants to take part in this shot so you need at least a decent handful for everyone. Go big or go home right?

DON’T WORRY ABOUT LINING EVERYONE UP

Leave that to me. I’ll give your wedding guests instructions and line them up ready for the shot. I also ask them to throw the confetti up and not at you (although there is always one that aims straight for your face!)

WALK SLOWLY, SMILE AND HAVE FUN!

It isn’t always easy when you are being showered with colourful petals or buds. But hold hands, look at each other and soak up all the love and cheers.

GET TWO SHOTS FOR THE PRICE OF ONE!

And my last tip is a good one, don’t just get one confetti shot, get two. I get a walking shot but also ask the guests at the end of the line to hold on to their confetti. Then when we reach them I ask them to gather around you and to throw when you kiss. Two shots for the price of one!
